Magnetically Controlled Active Capsule Endoscopy for Colon Examination

——Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Robotics Perception and Intelligence [P]

Colon diseases, especially colon cancer, have been affecting human health worldwide. At the same time, medical robot products are immature and the output is minimal in China, while the related products in foreign countries are expensive. This is incompatible with our country's existing medical conditions, purchasing power, and patient's economic affordability.

This topic is based on the relative positioning technology of image information and magnetic trajectory information fusion, aiming to intelligently detect the biological anatomical landmarks in the colon, and calculate the relative distance between the capsule and the lesion area found during clinical diagnosis relative to the anatomical landmarks in the large intestine. The position of the capsule and the lesion area in the 3D model of the colon is then visually displayed to the doctor in real-time. This will facilitate the doctor to make the next diagnosis and treatment plan based on the relative positioning information of the lesion area, which is conducive to the popularization and early diagnosis of colon examination, and can improve the life quality of patients with colon diseases and the survival rate of patients with colon cancer. In addition to the advantages and characteristics compared with traditional inspection methods, the research and development of magnetically controlled active capsule endoscopy for colon cancer inspection will indeed become a strategic emerging industry. In the future, China will continue to improve the independent innovation, R&D and industrialization capabilities of high-end medical equipment for colon inspection endoscopes, serve "high, sophisticated, and cutting-edge" scientific and technological innovation and industrial development layout, become a new growth point of the national economy, and create huge economic benefits. As an essential part of the project of the magnetically controlled active capsule robot system, this project is oriented to the clinical needs of colon examination and has significant high-tech features, which lays the foundation for the smooth implementation of the project.
